Monitoring and applicability

Regulatory change monitoring that names the product

Monitoring is the easy half. The hard half is applicability — deciding which of today’s changes touch which of your products in which markets, which is still done by hand almost everywhere. Certean does both, so what reaches your team is an impact on a named product with an owner and a date.

  • 27,000+ regulations across 150+ countries, read every day
  • Each change assessed against your products, components and target markets
  • Human validation before anything reaches a team, so alerts stay worth reading
  • A dated trail of what changed, who was told, and what was done about it

How it runs

From a published rule
to a closed obligation

01

Monitor

Official journals, authority registers, standards bodies and candidate lists, read daily across 150+ markets. The sources are the primary texts, not a secondary newsletter that saw them a week late.

02

Assess applicability

The step that decides whether monitoring is useful. A change is matched against your product data — category, components, substances, radio, target markets — so what you see is the subset that touches you.

03

Map to products

An applicable change resolves to named products and the markets they are sold in, with the obligation it creates: a new test, a revised declaration, a label, a deadline.

04

Route and own

The alert goes to the person who can act on it, with the impact already stated. Not a digest for the compliance inbox to triage.

05

Close with evidence

Work done against a change is recorded on the product: the updated technical file, the new test report, the declaration reissued. The change and its answer live in the same place.

06

Keep the history

An auditor asking why a product was compliant in March gets the version of the rules that applied in March and the evidence held at the time, rather than today’s picture.

FAQ

Monitoring and applicability, answered

What is regulatory change monitoring?
Regulatory change monitoring is the continuous tracking of new and amended rules in the markets a company sells into — product safety, substances, EMC and radio, energy and ecodesign, packaging and EPR, cybersecurity. For manufacturers it is only half the job: the other half is applicability, deciding which of the day’s changes touch which products in which markets. Monitoring without applicability produces a newsletter; the work still falls on a person.
What is regulatory applicability software?
Applicability software decides which obligations attach to a given product in a given market. It reads product data — category, bill of materials, substances, radio and power characteristics, intended use — and resolves it against the regulations in force where the product is sold. Done well it answers two questions at once: what applies to this product today, and what changed since the last time anyone asked.
How does Certean monitor regulatory changes?
Certean reads 27,000+ regulations across 150+ countries daily from primary sources, and combines automated tracking with human validation before anything is published to a customer. Each change is then assessed for applicability against your product portfolio, so your team receives impacts on named products rather than a feed of global regulatory activity.
How is this different from a regulatory newsletter or a consultant’s update?
A newsletter tells you a rule changed. It cannot tell you that the change affects four of your two hundred products, in two of your nine markets, because of a component you source from one supplier. That last step is the expensive one and it is the one Certean automates. Consultants do it well and do it at consultancy speed and cost; the platform does it on the day the change is published.
Can we see the history of what applied when?
Yes. Every assessment is dated against the version of the rule in force at the time, and the evidence attached to a product is held with it. That is what makes an audit answerable: not what the rules say now, but what they said then and what you held to show it.

Changes usually land on a substance first. See how material compliance is handled, or the rest of the platform.
